El anuncio de Carlos Loret que tomaría dos meses de vacaciones y que su noticiero en Latinus tendría una pausa, generó especulaciones entendibles. Ningún periodista en el mundo toma 60 días de vacaciones al año, ni un noticiero queda en suspenso. Pero tampoco, ni en los tiempos más álgidos de la polarización que llevó al presidente Donald Trump a enfrentarse con CNN, ni del presidente del gobierno español José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, cuando chocó con El País, un periodista y un medio habían sido sometidos a la virulencia vitriólica de un presidente como Andrés Manuel López Obrador, que se valió de información confidencial y datos fiscales, violando flagrantemente la ley.
Loret y Latinus han sido una molestia permanente para López Obrador desde que la plataforma digital comenzó sus operaciones el 7 de marzo de 2020, porque su énfasis ha sido en la investigación del presidente y su entorno, en presuntos actos de corrupción y evidentes ilegalidades de personas cercanas a él, convirtiéndose en una poderosa caja de rendición de cuentas del poder. La plataforma ha evolucionado hacia un sitio de noticias, pero ciertamente, sin las revelaciones de su equipo de reporteros de investigación, no es un medio indispensable.
Latinus es propiedad de LatinUs Media Group LCC, una sociedad de responsabilidad limitada registrada en diciembre de 2019 en Dover, la capital de Delaware, donde mejores condiciones fiscales existen en Estados Unidos. Surgió como una idea de Miguel Alonso Olamendi, que había sido secretario particular del exgobernador de Michoacán, Silvano Aureoles, y del empresario Christian González Guadarrama, por lo que desde su nacimiento fue descrito como un medio con intereses políticos. La llegada de dos nuevos socios, Alexis Nickin Gaxiola y Federico Madrazo Rojas, yerno e hijo de Roberto Madrazo, que derrotó a López Obrador por la gubernatura de Tabasco en los 90’s, contribuyeron a la percepción.
