El blanco de esta cacería es Javier Corral Jurado, un político que, a lo largo de su carrera política, ha destacado por su denuncia pública contra la corrupción. Desde sus años como Senador, hasta su mandato como gobernador de Chihuahua, Corral ha demostrado un compromiso por denunciar la corrupción, enfrentándose a poderosos enemigos y desafiando los esquemas de complicidad que han arraigado, profundamente, en el sistema político local de esa entidad.
Bajo su administración, Corral reveló uno de los escándalos de corrupción más grandes en la historia reciente de México: la ‘Operación Safiro’. Esta operación expuso un esquema de desvío de recursos públicos para financiar campañas electorales del PRI en diferentes estados del país, incluyendo Chihuahua. El arrojo de Corral para enfrentarse a figuras tan influyentes como César Duarte y sus aliados dentro del PRI, le valió no solo la admiración de muchos, sino también el odio y la venganza jurada de aquellos a quienes dejó al descubierto.
Sin embargo, el panorama actual en Chihuahua es preocupante. En lugar de continuar con la labor de limpieza y transparencia iniciada, el gobierno de Maru Campos ha optado por una estrategia de persecución política sin precedentes. Desde el cierre de la librería de Corral en enero de 2023, hasta los recientes intentos fallidos de captura en la Ciudad de México, es evidente que la administración de Campos está más interesada en silenciar a sus detractores, que en combatir la verdadera delincuencia que asola al estado.
