Un grupo de investigadores de la Universidad College Cork en Irlanda encontró que los bebés nacidos durante los confinamientos por COVID-19 experimentaron cambios en su microbioma intestinal, lo cual podría tener beneficios para su salud en el futuro.
El estudio, publicado en la revista Allergy, revela que estos bebés presentaron modificaciones en su microbioma intestinal, el cual juega un papel importante en la digestión y fortalecimiento del sistema inmunológico.
Bebés nacidos durante la pandemia de COVID-19 tenían un microbioma más beneficioso que resultó en tasas más bajas de afecciones alérgicas y menor necesidad de antibióticos. Investigadores encontraron que tenían un mayor contenido de microbios beneficiosos transmitidos por sus madres, actuando como defensa contra enfermedades alérgicas.
