La carta enviada por Genaro García Luna lleva un secreto en su primer párrafo. Más allá de los señalamientos contra López Obrador, el exsecretario de Seguridad federal escribe que le ofrecieron dinero y libertad a cambio de volverse testigo protegido para “imputar personas e instituciones que en el corto plazo debilitaría el desarrollo, paz pública y vida institucional” de México.
De acuerdo con tres fuentes distintas, a García Luna le pidieron que declarara en contra de los expresidentes Carlos Salinas de Gortari, Ernesto Zedillo, Vicente Fox, Felipe Calderón y Enrique Peña Nieto. Que implicara también a cinco de los empresarios más ricos y famosos de México (Carlos Slim, Ricardo Salinas Pliego, entre ellos), a varios exprocuradores, exsecretarios de Seguridad y exdirigentes del PAN y del PRI.
El objetivo —según las fuentes— era desmontar desde Estados Unidos a toda la clase política, empresarial y mediática de México. Deslegitimarla, aniquilarla. Emprender una suerte de “maxiproceso” para declarar que en México operó un narcoestado entre los años de 1989 y 2018.
¿Por qué querría Estados Unidos esto? En realidad, Estados Unidos no lo quería. Fue una petición de México. La detención de García Luna sucedió en 2019. El gobierno de López Obrador estaba llegando al poder y puso este tema sobre la mesa como parte de la negociación con Estados Unidos para aceptar convertirse en un “tercer país seguro” para los migrantes y permitir una operación más laxa de la DEA en suelo mexicano. Para García Luna, según contó en su carta, el trato incluía una remuneración económica y la garantía de libertad en seis meses.
